The executive order on the registration and reporting of packaging, also known as the Register Order, entered into force on April 1, 2024. At the same time, the Danish Producer Responsibility (DPA) opened for the registration of companies that make packaging or packaged products available on the Danish market.

This means that if you are a company subject to producer responsibility, you must report your expected packaging volumes for 2024 no later than August 31, 2024.

What needs to be reported in 2024?

Volume reporting must be done in kilograms, broken down by the following material categories:

  • cardboard
  • paper
  • ferrous materials
  • aluminum
  • glass
  • plastic
  • food and beverage cartons
  • wood.

However, you only need to report your total volume if you expect to make less than 8 tonnes of packaging available in 2024.

You must also assess whether the packaging, once it becomes waste, ends up in a waste bin at a household or at a business, i.e., whether it is household waste or commercial waste. Furthermore, you must specify how the packaging waste should be sorted. Can it be sorted for recycling? Or is it residual waste or hazardous waste?
