The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduces new requirements for corporate packaging documentation. From August 12, 2026, a Declaration of Conformity (DoC) must be prepared before packaging can be placed on the market. This declaration must be supported by the necessary technical documentation.
For many companies, establishing the necessary data foundation can be a challenge. Data regarding packaging materials, composition, and other relevant factors may originate from various points in the supply chain.
Suppliers must provide the information and documentation that manufacturers need to verify that the packaging meets all requirements. At the same time, manufacturers must stay on top of the specific requirements applicable to each piece of packaging, such as standards for materials, hazardous substances, recyclability, and packaging minimization.
That is why we have developed a new feature in GS1Trade Packaging, which makes it easier to manage your Declaration of Conformity.
Based on the company and packaging data already registered in GS1Trade Packaging, you can automatically generate a Declaration of Conformity for your packaging and download it as a single, consolidated document.
The Declaration of Conformity identifies, among other things, the packaging it refers to and the manufacturer. It contains information based on the data registered for both the packaging and the company.
It remains the manufacturer's responsibility to ensure that the registered information is accurate, complete, and up to date, and that the packaging complies with all relevant PPWR requirements.
