On behalf of the think tank ONE\THIRD PlanMiljø has, in collaboration with GS1 Denmark and the University of Copenhagen, conducted a mini-pilot study: "The effect of smart barcodes in reducing food waste in retail."
The purpose of the study is to shed light on the potential food waste reduction effects of implementing smart barcodes in the Danish retail sector by uncovering experiences from the retail chains Meny in Norway and Woolworths in Australia, where smart barcodes have already been tested and partially implemented. And the positive result is far from surprising.

Based on the two cases from Norway and Australia, the ONE/THIRD report estimates the total reduction potential in Denmark to be 21,009 tons per year, corresponding to a reduction of 28%. In the continued work with smart barcodes, it is also recommended:
