At the end of September, the School Food 2030 project took place at our partner school, Læringshuset Nærheden, featuring professional discussions on cooking, CO2 emissions, and food waste. Minister for Food Rasmus Prehn (S) participated with a presentation and served as a waiter for the students' food-waste-friendly menu, which was calculated based on GS1 standards with expert guidance from Mads Kibsgaard, Head of Standards, Sustainability & Partnerships.
Mads Kibsgaard also took the opportunity to brief the Minister on how smart barcodes (2D barcodes) can contribute to a significant reduction in food waste – not just in households, but also for food producers and grocery retailers. The Minister quickly grasped the key points, and the conversation was soon in full swing. Watch and listen to the conversation below:
Mads Kibsgaard has been a mentor at the school for three years, and through this collaboration, students have, among other things, learned to "climate-hack" their food using data from CONCITO. Læringshuset Nærheden serves grades 0-9 and focuses on innovation and science. The school was developed in collaboration with teachers and educators, as well as an Advisory Board with representatives from LEGO Education, Microsoft, and the Danish Technological Institute, among others.
