On July 1, just before many of us went on summer vacation, the Ministry of the Environment sent an amendment to the Environmental Protection Act for consultation. Among other things, it proposes that extended producer responsibility for packaging will not take effect until October 1, 2025, instead of July 1, 2025. Any consultation responses must be submitted to the Ministry no later than August 22, 2024.

The consultation on the executive order, which will set out the detailed rules for the extended producer responsibility scheme, such as eco-modulated fees, did not arrive before the summer holidays as expected, and all stakeholders involved in extended producer responsibility for packaging are therefore awaiting the publication of the executive order text.

Still mandatory to report expected packaging volumes for 2024 by August 31 this year

Companies subject to extended producer responsibility still have a registration and reporting obligation during the period from April 1 to August 31, 2024. This can be done directly with Dansk Producentansvar (also known as DPA) or via your chosen collective scheme.

If you haven't calculated your 2024 packaging volumes yet, help is available through our free starter kit. It includes a packaging calculation tool that can be used to map your packaging and calculate estimates for reporting. More than 1,000 have already downloaded it.

GS1Trade Packaging can help you get ready for declaration

Are you already using our starter kit? Then you may have heard about our new system, GS1Trade Packaging? But did you know that the two are linked? Relevant data from the starter kit can be mapped into GS1Trade Packaging for the collection, structuring, and declaration of packaging data.

The system enables data exchange between companies, allowing you to both receive data from subcontractors and provide data to, for example, private label customers. It is built to handle the requirements associated with upcoming eco-modulated fees and to summarize data based on made-available packaging volumes.

GS1Trade Packaging is being launched in modules with gradual user onboarding. You can sign up to try the system for free and without obligation until May 31, 2025.
