Colloquially, many know GTIN as a barcode, but technically, GTIN is the number found beneath the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.

Stregkodens 50 års fødselsdag i starten af april blev samtidig startskuddet til en massiv medieomtale med mere end 70 omtaler af GS1 og smarte 2D-stregkoder blandt andet i de store dagblade samt interviews i Go' Morgen Danmark, DR Nyhederne og TV2 Kosmopol.
Head of Standards, Sustainability og Partnerships, Mads Kibsgaard, turnerede i påsken fra det ene nyhedsstudie til det andet - og glæder sig selvsagt over interessen, som han håber er kommet for at blive.
- Det er en stor, vigtigt omstilling, som vores fødevareindustri står overfor, så det er opløftende at medierne nu for alvor har fattet interesse for - og set det store potentiale i - 2D-stregkodens sammenhæng med madspild, fødevaresikkerhed, forbrugerkommunikation og grønne indkøb.
Jeg håber, at GS1 dermed har fået en større berettiget plads i mediebilledet og kan bidrage til den generelle forståelse af, hvordan fremtidens stregkoder ser ud og fungerer.
