Madspild er et stort problem. Så stort, at det har fået sit eget delmål blandt FN’s 17 verdensmål. Det i sig selv sig noget om størrelsen af problemet. Men hvordan når man så i mål med at sænke madspildet?
Det er der ikke én enkelt løsning på. Men der er en simpel løsning på at nå en stor del af vejen. Nemlig ved at implementere brugen af smarte stregkoder i detailhandlen. Erfaringer fra udlandet har nemlig vist, at smarte stregkoder er et yderst effektivt værktøj til at sænke madspildet i detailhandlen. Faktisk viste et pilotprojekt i Meny i Norge, at madspildet kunne reduceres med 18% målt i kroner og øre. I Australiens største supermarkedskæde, Woolworth, er erfaringerne, at man kan komme op på en madspildsreduktion på 44%.
I denne hvidbog bliver det derfor undersøgt, hvordan man ved hjælp af smarte stregkoder kan sænke madspildet og løse en række andre opgaver, således det kommer til at gavne hele værdikæden fra producent til forbruger. Og dermed også være til glæde og gavn for hele samfundet.
Hvidbogen foreslår yderligere, at der i regi af Fødevareministeriet nedsættes en arbejdsgruppe med en ambition om skabe en overgang til smarte stregkoder for hovedparten af alle danske supermarkeder.
