Colloquially, many know GTIN as a barcode, but technically, GTIN is the number found beneath the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.

More than 400 participants from across the Nordic region filled the conference hall in Oslo when the first GS1 Nordic Summit took place on May 7-8, 2026. A sold-out conference provided the setting for two days filled with inspiration, networking, and concrete perspectives on the future of trade and collaboration.
The conference is organized by the Nordic GS1 organizations, which have jointly created a new Nordic meeting place for leaders, experts, and decision-makers across industries and national borders.
The initiative was born out of a growing desire from members and partners for stronger Nordic cooperation on standards, data, traceability, and digitalization.
With the theme Navigating Trade in a New World Order the conference focused on how global standards, technology, and data sharing can create value – for both businesses and society.

The program featured presentations, case studies, and debates from some of the most well-known companies and organizations in the Nordics and the world. Speakers included companies such as IKEA, H&M, ICA, Bang & Olufsen, NCC, PepsiCo, Tesco, Fazer, and NorgesGruppen, who shared practical experiences with, among other things, the implementation of QR codes, digital product passports, and data sharing in practice.
To ensure high relevance across industries, the conference was structured around three tracks: Daily Goods, Construction, and Durable Goods.

The GS1 Nordic Summit became much more than just a conference. The many participants, speakers, and partners created a vibrant setting for dialogue, networking, and the exchange of experience across industries and borders. The combination of strategic perspectives, concrete case studies, and strong networking opportunities was highlighted as one of the conference's greatest strengths. One message resonated clearly throughout the event: companies across industries and countries face many of the same challenges—and the solutions require common standards, data, and collaboration.
With over 400 participants from across the Nordic region, 35 speakers, and more than 20 sponsors, the conference was clear proof of the need for a common Nordic platform for collaboration on the digital value chains of the future. Thank you to all participants, speakers, and sponsors.
Due to the high level of interest, the GS1 Nordic Summit will return as early as next year. The next summit will be held in Helsinki, Finland, in September 2027.
The ambition is clear: the GS1 Nordic Summit is to be the Nordic hub for companies and organizations working with standards, data, traceability, and digital transformation—and who wish to strengthen collaboration across the Nordic region.
