We are pleased to introduce an update to GS1Trade Sync that supports the latest requirements for product safety (GPSR - General Product Safety Regulation) and sustainability (EUDR - European Union Deforestation Regulation).

GPSR: Increased focus on product safety

The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) is new EU legislation aimed at ensuring greater transparency in the supply chain. With this update to GS1Trade Sync, it becomes easier to comply with GPSR requirements, as data suppliers can register contact information directly in the system. This ensures that trading partners have access to the necessary data for products covered by the legislation, which is essential for secure and reliable trade.

Products including skincare, beauty, household chemicals, clothing, textiles, and toys will be subject to the new rules in GS1Trade Sync.

We have been hosting ongoing free online courses with guidance on how to provide the necessary contact information. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in such a session.

EUDR: Support for green and responsible data management

The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is a new regulation designed to help reduce deforestation and protect the environment. It requires information regarding specific raw materials and products related to forestry and derived resources if they are to be traded and imported into the EU.

GS1Trade Sync now makes it possible to specify whether your products are subject to EUDR requirements. This makes it easier for your trading partners, ensuring everyone can make informed decisions regarding sustainability and reporting to authorities.

Products covered by the legislation are defined based on customs tariff/Intrastat/HS codes.

What does this update mean for you?

With these additions, GS1 supportsTrade Sync in both product safety (GPSR) and environmental responsibility (EUDR).

Data suppliers can easily add and share relevant information.

Data recipients can retrieve contact information directly in the system and get information on which products are covered by EUDR. This means fewer manual processes and greater peace of mind for customers and partners.

When do the new rules take effect in GS1Trade Sync?

The system will be updated on November 16, 2024, after which you can start adding, sharing, and retrieving the new information.
