The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is impacting many Danish companies, alongside a wave of other green legislation. Are you unsure how to proceed, whether you are covered, and do you want to know how GS1 standards can help? Read more here and get a free white paper.

What is EUDR?

With the EU Deforestation-free Products Regulation (EUDR), the EU aims to combat illegal deforestation (both inside and outside the EU) across a wide range of product groups when they are marketed within the EU. The legislation will impose new and strict requirements on corporate supply chains – particularly regarding the flow of information from the origin of raw materials at the very top of the supply chain (upstream).

To document that products are not the result of illegal deforestation, companies will need to document and report detailed data on specific product categories typically associated with deforestation. This data includes information about local farms, geolocation of fields/plantations, and shipments, which together must create traceability of verifiable data regarding the product's origin.

The EUDR legislation is currently set to enter into force on December 30, 2025, following a provisional 1-year postponement by the European Commission.

How can GS1 help?

With GS1 standards, GS1 members gain a toolkit they can effectively use to ensure compliance with the new EUDR requirements. Whether it concerns product identification, sharing data related to deforestation, or building traceability from the top of the supply chain, GS1’s global standards create a solid foundation.

Download our white paper "Supporting compliance with the European Deforestation Regulation" published by GS1 in Europe. Here, you can read more about EUDR and get practical strategies for preparing your EUDR compliance through global standards.
