Colloquially, many know GTIN as a barcode, but technically, GTIN is the number found beneath the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.
To form barcodes for your products and colliers, you need a GTIN (Global Trade Item Number). The GTIN is the number that uniquely identifies exactly your product, and is the number below the barcode symbol itself.

It is trademark owner, that is, the company that owners/is responsible for the product that will provide barcode labeling with GTINs. It is not necessarily the manufacturer if he is merely producing for the trademark owner.
Assess how many different product variants (e.g. colors and sizes) GTins will be used for. A GTIN must be assigned to each variant.
To form GTIns, use a GS1LEGITIMATION subscription. You can choose from several GS1ID subscriptions - from one single identification number to 100,000 identification numbers. Choose the package that will cover your company's needs some time into the future.
Please be aware that you not can upgrade a GS1ID subscription. If you run out of numbers, buy a new subscription.
Should the products be sold by weight? Please contact our member service for advice and guidance. The same applies to trade with the United States and Canada.

If your company already has a membership, you can also purchase new subscriptions via With GS1.
After you buy a GS1ID subscription, you will receive a company prefix, you can access via the GS1 platformTrades Activated. The length of this prefix will be based on the number of identification numbers you purchased.
If you buy a GS1ID 1 subscription, you will receive a 12-digit prefix.
If you buy a GS1ID 10 subscription, you will receive an 11-digit prefix.
If you buy a GS1ID 100 subscription, you will receive a 10-digit prefix.
If you buy a GS1ID 1,000 subscription, you will receive a 9-digit prefix.
If you buy a GS1ID 10,000 subscription, you will receive an 8-digit prefix.
If you buy a GS1ID 100,000 subscription, you will receive a 7-digit prefix.
All of your company's GTIns will start with your prefix. Then comes the product reference number, where you control which product will be identified. The last number in a GTIN is always a check digit.
We recommend that the product reference numbers are assigned consecutively.
