Colloquially, many know GTIN as a barcode, but technically, GTIN is the number found beneath the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.
The guidelines for the sizes of EAN barcodes help to ensure optimal scanning at the exit boxes. Barcode dimensions are based on a normal size, denoted by a size factor of 1.0 (100%). The following table indicates symbol dimensions for the EAN-13 and EAN-8.
There should be a free area to the left and to the right of the barcode symbol - this area is called the light zone.
As far as possible, you should avoid height-reducing the barcode. Height reduction of barcodes should be made only if absolutely required. When the height of the barcode symbol is reduced, scanning the barcode can become more cumbersome.
