Colloquially, many know GTIN as a barcode, but technically, GTIN is the number found beneath the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.
GS1-128 pallet labels are used on logistic units, i.e. on the units shipped, often a pallet or carton shipped individually. This guide can serve as a checklist when building your GS1-128 pallet labels.

(1st) The barcode type must be a GS1-128, also referred to as EAN128 or UCC/EAN128. Code128 is another barcode type and must not be used.
(2) A separator character must always be used (FNC1) after a variable-length data field, which is followed by more data. As far as possible, place the variable data on the far right of the barcode.
(3rd) Brackets may not be expressed in the barcode itself, but must be visible in the readable text below the barcode.
(4th) Calculate the check digits in the GTIN (EAN item number and SSCC code) correctly. Easily calculate your check digit here.
(5th) AI (37) may only be used in conjunction with AI (02).
(6th) If the pallet is an agreed order unit, AI (01) is used instead of AI (02) and AI (37).
(7th) Each pallet must have a unique 18-digit SSCC code. Read more about building the SSCC.
(8) The barcode shall not contain internal information expressed in AI (91) - (99). AI (90) may only be used if you have agreed with your customer.
9) There must be a certain Margin to the left and right of the barcode (also called light zones), where no lines, characters or the like may appear.
(10) They dark lines in the barcode should appear sharply on a light background.
(11) The pallet label should be placed on a smooth surface without creases.
(12) It is recommended that the pallet label has A5 size.
(13) It is recommended that the GS1-128 pallet label be placed on the pallet as shown below. There are no rules as to whether the label should sit on the left, in the center or on the right, but at least 50 mm from the edge. There must be two identical labels on the pallet: one on each side.
