Colloquially, many know GTIN as a barcode, but technically, GTIN is the number found beneath the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.
The recommended size of the ITF barcode is seen from the drawing below, where the X dimension (i.e., the thickness of the thinnest line) is 1.016 mm. If a smaller barcode is required, the X dimension must be down to a minimum of 0,250 mm. That is:
• Minimum = 0.250 mm.
• Maximum (the recommended size) = 1,016 mm.
• Minimum (50%) = 71.40 mm. x 12.7 mm.
• Maximum (100%) = 142.75 mm. x 32.00 mm.
• To the left of the barcode (within the frame) = X dimension x 10.
• To the right of the barcode (within the frame) = X dimension x 10.
Size of the ITF-14 barcode at X dimension = 1.016 mm (0.040 in.)
