Colloquially, many know GTIN as a barcode, but technically, GTIN is the number found beneath the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.
In the instructions below you will find descriptions of how GS1-128 collilabels are applied to fresh meat colliers.
GS1-128 package labels are used on collieries, i.e. those units which are typically packed on a pallet and are not shipped individually. In order to ensure cooperation in the supply chain, it is important that standards for information transferred between trading parties are respected and properly labelled.
This guide can serve as a checklist when building your GS1-128 collilabels.

What is an Application Identifier?
An AI is a number of 2 - 4 digits that tells the software “behind” the barcode reader the meaning and format of the digits and/or letters that stand after the AI.
Click here to get to an overview of all AIs
(1st) The barcode type must be a GS1-128, also referred to as EAN128 or UCC/EAN128. Code 128 is another barcode type and must not be used.
(2nd) A separator character must always be used (FNC1) after a variable-length data field, which is followed by more data. As far as possible, place the variable data to the far right of the barcode.
(3) Parentesisr may not be expressed in the barcode itself, but must be visible in the readable text below the barcode.
(4) Calculate the check digits in GTIN (EAN item number) correct at www.gs1.dk/control digit.
(5th) The barcode must not contain internal information expressed in AI (91) - (99). AI (90) may only be used if you have agreed with your customer.
(6th) There must be a certain Margin to the right and left of the barcode (also called light zones), where lines, signs and the like should not appear.
(7th) thee dark streaks in the barcode should appear sharply on a light background.
(8th) The label should be placed on a smooth surface without folds.
(9th) It is recommended that the collilab has A6 size.
(10th) The GS1-128 package label should be positioned as shown below.
