Colloquially, many know GTIN as a barcode, but technically, GTIN is the number found beneath the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.
A GSRN is used to identify either the recipient or the individual provider of services within a service relationship. To identify both roles in a service relationship (recipient and provider), two GSRN Application Identifiers (AIs) are available. These AIs allow the service provider to store data related to the services delivered to the recipient and to the individual provider.
In Denmark, the electricity and natural gas sectors, among others, have decided to use GSRN to identify metering points.
The GS1 Company Prefix is assigned by GS1 member organizations to the company that allocates the GSRN—that is, the company providing the service. This ensures that GSRN numbers are globally unique.
The structure and content of the service reference are defined by the owner of the GS1 Company Prefix. The 18th digit is a check digit.
See below what you need to do once you have received your company prefix of between 7 and 11 digits from GS1 Denmark and need to convert them into barcodes. First, you need to create the GTIN product numbers that the barcode will contain:
With 7 digits, you can create 100,000 GTIN product numbers
With 8 digits, you can create 10,000 GTIN product numbers
With 9 digits, you can create 1,000 GTIN product numbers
With 10 digits, you can create 100 GTIN product numbers
With 11 digits, you can create 10 GTIN product numbers

Nedenfor kan du se hvordan data synkroniseres imellem købere og sælgere vha. GS1 GDSN og GS1 Global Registry.
1. Loading of company data
2. Registering of company data
3. Subscription to seller's data pool
4. Publishing of company data
5. Confirmation receipt of company data
GSRN – Provider (AI 8017) identifies the relationship between an organization that provides services and the service provider.
GSRN – Recipient (AI 8018) identifies the relationship between an organization that provides services and the recipient of those services. In Denmark, the electricity and natural gas sectors have decided to use AI 8018 to identify metering points.
Example of metering point identification:
57 = GS1 Denmark
57 13131 = The Danish electricity supply sector (for metering point identification)
57 13131 123 = Danish grid company (company prefix)
57 13131 123 1234567 = A specific metering point identified by a Danish grid company
57 13131 123 1234567 K = Global and unique identification of a metering point assigned by a Danish grid company – validated with a technical check digit (modulus 10).
