When the standard behind GS1Trade Sync, GDSN, is updated on May 17, 2024, we are introducing a new rule covering a range of products within the beauty, cosmetics, and personal care segment.

Specifically, this means that the field 4168 Non-food Ingredient List must be completed when creating a beauty product (such as lipstick, sunscreen, antiperspirant, and makeup) in GS1Trade Sync. The field must be completed with an associated English language code.

After May 17, products that have not been updated with an ingredient list will show a red error in GS1Trade Sync.

Why is the rule being implemented?

The rule is being implemented at the request of the industry to ensure that the INCI/non-food ingredient list printed on the physical packaging is also provided digitally. When the ingredient list is also available digitally, it is easy for entities such as webshops to use the information.

At GS1 Denmark, we work closely with the industry on the development of a new data model for beauty, and for this purpose, we have established a network group with participation from both suppliers and retailers. The purpose of a data model is to describe which fields can (optional) and must (mandatory) be completed when creating beauty products in GS1Trade Sync.

The data model will be updated continuously as the network group agrees on which fields should be mandatory in GS1Trade Sync.

What can you do?

You can start updating your products now to ensure consistency between the ingredient list printed on the physical packaging and the data in GS1Trade Sync.

Companies with products in this segment will also receive a list of the products affected by the new rule.

If you have questions about the upcoming change or would like to know more about the work on the data model, please feel free to contact us at info@gs1.dk.
