8004 Individual Identification of Equipment, Assistive Devices, etc. (Global Individual Asset Indentifier)

Application Identifier 8004 indicates a serial number for equipment and technical aids.

A device identified by AI 8004 is uniquely identified, with the GS1 Prefix and company reference number included in AI 8004. AI 8004 can be used when the combination of AI 01 for GTIN number and AI 21 for serial number is not appropriate.

An example of application of AI 8004, is electricity meters, where there is a need to assign an individual number to each electricity meter.

AI 8004 has the following structure:

• GS1 Prefix + company reference number
• Reference number of equipment assigned by the entity issuing the number

AI 8004 is not to be confused with AI 00 for logistic units and AI 01 for trading units.
